[Johor Bahru] If you are looking for new cafes in Johor Bahru, consider checking out Flame & Fern Cafe.
I bookmarked this place for a while, but then… so little time, so little space.
It is tucked away in Taman Melodies – not to far from central JB, good for those looking for a spot that is both stylish and laid-back.
With its industrial loft vibe and large windows, the café offers a welcoming atmosphere that is great for a relaxing hangout or a lively catch-up session with friends.
As I walked to the back, I saw a spacious outdoor area.
I chose to sit inside because (aircon and) you can observe some of the items being grilled (though there is some smokiness in the air).
When it comes to food, Flame & Fern stands out with its commitment to homemade, freshly prepared dishes. Not quite like the usual.
What I found interesting was that there were Middle Eastern twists on some of the dishes, such as the Lamb Chorizo Shakshuka (RM35).
Other brunch items include the FNF Ultimate Big Breakfast (RM38), Signature Waffles & Chicken Tikka (RM28), French Toast (RM24), Croque Madame (RM29), and Flame’s Rosti & Chicken Sausage (RM26).
I decided to indulge in their Salmon & Scrambled Eggs (RM49), after I saw that they were also selling their bread. Must be good, right?
The dish featured a thick slab of well-grilled salmon that was infused with a subtle smokiness, complementing the rich flavours.
The scrambled eggs were fluffy, nestled atop a buttery, toasted homemade brioche which to me was truly the highlight.
The avocado mash added a creamy texture whilst the sun-dried tomatoes brought a welcome tanginess. Consider satisfied.
Dessert-wise, there are the Hazelnut Chocolate Fudge (RM32), Tiramisu Non Alcohol (RM26), and Butter Bread Pudding (RM22).
As I wanted to have something light, I ordered the Lemon Mayer Loaf Cake (RM16).
Plus point: the cake was served nicely warm, enhancing its moist texture.
Each bite was infused with the vibrant, citrusy tang of lemon, balanced by the sweetness of the berries sauce drizzled over it.
The addition of chantilly cream added a light finish. The price was okay to me too, considering how much berries were added.
Flame & Fern also provides plenty of opportunities for those Instagram-worthy moments, thanks to its aesthetically pleasing decor and natural lighting.
Whether you are settling in for a meal or just stopping by for a coffee, the cafe’s mix of industrial-charm and quality makes it a possible stop on your Johor Bahru café hopping itinerary.
