[Johor Bahru] Chanced upon Hiritsu Coffee Roastery, which is located in the quaint neighbourhood of Taman Melodies in JB.
If you are planning to café hop, it is not too far a walk from KSL Mall, and relatively near hip cafes such as Nimmies Pastry Café and Vamos Coffee Roastery.
Upon entering Hiritsu, I was greeted by an inviting ambiance that paired rustic charm with modern minimalism, making it a cosy environment to unwind.
But when judged on aesthetic values against others, this one is fairly ‘conventional’.
The food menu, though not extensive, includes brunch items such as Big Boy Breakfast (RM39), Truffle Mushroom Toasty (RM30), Mr Krab Pasta (RM30), Salmon Hash (RM38), Egg Benedict with Juicy Steak (RM38), and Berry Ricotta Hotcake (RM36).
I had the Beret Croffle (RM18).
Imagine a warm, crispy croffle (a hybrid of a croissant and waffle), which provided a buttery and slightly flaky base.
This was topped with smooth Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream for a creamy contrast.
There was also caramel crumble which brought a sweet, slightly salty crunch; and addition of a wedge-shaped biscuit referred to as the “beret”.
Look out for the rotating bakes as well, such as the Pistachio Swiss Roll (RM9), Caramel Pound Cake (RM15), Canelé (RM8), Savoury Pound Cake (RM15), Matcha Financier (RM12), and Blueberries Crumble Cake (RM13).
I was most enticed by the Canelé (RM8), with a caramelised crust and tender custard center.
The café takes pride in its rich and aromatic coffee, as the beans are meticulously selected and roasted to highlight their unique profiles.
I had a “Running Peach” (RM18) cold brew coffee concoction best enjoyed sip by sip, as recommended by the barista.
The base of cold brew coffee offered a deep flavour with subtle bitter notes, balanced by the sweetness and slight acidity of the white peach.
The ginger flower, though subtle, provided a floral, slightly spicy aroma. At first, the drink was an acquired taste, but I came to appreciate it in the end.
Hiritsu also offers the Shaddock Gathered Cold Brew Coffee (RM18), blending coffee with pomelo syrup and savoury cheese foam — an adventurous choice for those looking to try something new.
At Hiritsu Coffee Roastery, you should find a welcoming environment and a selection of unique drinks to discover.
