Sushi Zanmai
i12 Katong #02-01/02
Sushi Zanmai at i12 Katong is a well-established Japanese restaurant chain from Malaysia that offers a wide selection of Japanese dishes at value-for-money prices.
Upon entering, I liked the restaurant’s interior which features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, allowing natural light to flood in, with relaxed and contemporary setting.
The menu boasts a variety of options, ranging from sashimi, sushi, and salads to yakimono and nabemono dishes.
Recommended is the Salmon Mentai Roll ($10.80), filled with avocado, salad, and agedama, then topped with fresh Atlantic salmon and torched mentaiko mayo sauce.
Another must-try is the Spicy Niku Nabe ($15.80). You can choose between tender slices of Angus beef or pork belly cooked in a comforting broth that blends Japanese and even Sichuan flavours for that extra kick.
To accompany the meal, the Mango Fizz and Peach Soda ($3.80 each) are refreshing options – light, slightly sweet, and a great complement to the richer, savoury dishes.
Xi Tang
i12 Katong #01-21
Xi Tang offers a modern twist on traditional Hong Kong-style desserts in a pretty, pastel-themed space.
The café’s soothing interior features soft pink chairs, wooden tables, and playful decor elements like circular window cutouts and pops of greenery.
The menu includes a variety of colourful and nostalgic offerings, prepared by chefs from Hong Kong. Signatures include the Mango Pomelo Sago with Mango Ice Cream ($8.50) and the Peach Gum Fungus Longan Tonic Soup ($8.00), both of which are refreshing and light.
I was enticed by the cute Red Bean Mochi ($7.00 for 3 pieces). Shaped like little hedgehogs and coated with shredded coconut, the mochi has a soft, chewy texture filled with smooth red bean paste. It is sweet but not overpowering.
For something savoury, the menu also offers Braised Beef Brisket Noodles ($12.00) which come with tender beef slices and a flavourful broth, served with fresh bok choy.
A comfortable spot for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet dessert break.
Greybox Coffee
i12 Katong #02-23/24
Greybox Coffee, a renowned Chinese coffee chain, has recently opened a café concept at i12 Katong.
Expect not just your ordinary coffee drinks. Creative beverages include the Planet Latte ($7.50), Coconut Coffee ($12), Dirty Mocha ($7.50), Passion Fruit Cold Brew ($8), Summer Grape Cold Brew ($8), and Osmanthus Cold Brew ($8).
Curious about a Planet Latte? The signature coffee drink features a large ice sphere made from cold brew coffee, suspended in a blend of condensed milk and latte.
As the ice sphere melts, it gradually infuses the drink with robust coffee flavours.
In addition to beverages, Greybox offers a selection of sandwiches and pastries in a revamped menu. Gourmet sandwiches feature the Turkey Ham & Cheese Croissant ($11.00) and Smoked Chicken & Egg Mayo Ciabatta ($14.00).
For pies, you can choose between the Chicken Mushroom Pie ($9.60) and Beef Pie ($9.60). There is also a newly introduced croffle selection, which offers Blueberry Croffle ($12.00) and Strawberry Croffle ($12.00) for those with a sweet tooth.
Tim Hortons
i12 Katong #01-28
Tim Hortons, the renowned Canadian coffee chain, has recently opened an outlet at i12 Katong, bringing its signature offerings to the East Coast community.
It is worth noting that this is the only Tim Hortons in Singapore with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Try the 6-pack Assorted Donut Box ($20 for box of 6), where you can enjoy classics like the soft and sweet Classic Glaze and Boston Cream, alongside bold flavours such as Yuzu Cream, Maple Glaze, and Strawberry & Belgian White Chocolate.
I also recommend two pastries that are popular in Canada and have just been introduced to the Singapore market – the Honey Cruller ($3.50) and the Apple Fritter ($4).
The Honey Cruller is a light, airy doughnut with a subtle honey flavour, providing a less dense alternative to classic doughnuts.
Give the Apple Fritter a try. It is a deep-fried pastry filled with cinnamon and apple chunks, dusted with icing sugar, and reminiscent of an apple crumble in doughnut form.
Edith Patisserie
i12 Katong #B1-30
Edith Patisserie is a charming local bakery known for its fluffy layered cakes, brownies, muffins, loaves, cupcakes, and cookies. It has recently opened a new takeaway kiosk at i12 Katong.
Heading to a gathering? Try the Party Slice Cake Platter ($67), featuring a tempting assortment of eight distinctive flavours.
Highlights include the aromatic Earl Grey Lavender, decadent Chocolate Hazelnut, and the refreshing Yuzu Osmanthus, made with light vanilla sponge, osmanthus-infused cream, and zesty yuzu buttercream.
For those with dietary preferences, the platter includes a sugar-free Keto Raspberries & Cream slice and a rich Vegan Chocolate Mudcake.
Beyond whole and sliced cakes, the bakery also offers a variety of mini treats, such as the Assorted Mini Treats box ($14.20), which features brownies and mini lemon loaves – perfect for sharing or gifting.
