I found myself on the rooftop of KADA KADA in Maxwell, and discovered a piece of Mediterranean heaven.
Alani, situated on the rooftop of KADA, offers a dining experience that blends open-air ambience with a focus on bread-centric dishes.
In case you are curious, you can take the electric lift up (an electric lift built in the 1920s) or the stairs.
If you have not been to KADA yet, it is a new vibrant lifestyle space that blends food, art, and community.
While the open-air rooftop at Alani can get warm, the laid-back and rustic Mediterranean vibe at Alani makes up for it.
The outdoor seating area is lush and cosy, with rattan furniture, vibrant cushions, and plenty of greenery, making it quite a tranquil spot to relax and enjoy a slow brunch.
The interior space is filled with natural light, featuring an open kitchen and counters stacked with fresh bread and pastries.
The menu of Alani highlights their signature open-fired breads made with 14-year-old Greek sourdough starter.
There are heartier options like Lebanese Zaatar ($11), Fermented Pumpkin Pesto and Wagyu Beef ($18), and San Marzano Tomato and Burrata ($16).
For those with a sweet tooth, you can have the Tsoureki with French chestnuts, white chocolate, and feuilletine ($26), alongside Bread & Butter Pudding with milk chocolate praline, fresh berries, and gold flakes ($22).
Other smaller desserts include Greek Yoghurt Banana Cake with caramelised bananas, vanilla mascarpone, and peanut butter caramel fudge ($8 per piece), and Hazelnut Cake with poached pears, Greek brandy, milk chocolate, and meringue ($12 per piece or $68 for a full cake).
I tried the Portokalopita with bitter chocolate and phyllo pastry ($10 per piece or $58 for a full cake).
The rich and moist Greek orange cake is made with layers of phyllo pastry, soaked in syrup and infused with citrus flavours.
Topped with bitter chocolate, this brought me back to Greece for the moment. Really quite good.
For those who are keen, right next door to Alani is its sister restaurant, Proud Potato Peeler, which serves Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours inspired by Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon.
Do note that reservations for Proud Potato Peeler are required.
