This Korean dish has also been made more popular by Solsot 솔솥 in Seoul.
Sotbap involves cooking rice in a ‘sot’, a sturdy stone or metal pot, often accompanied by ingredients like vegetables, seafood, or meat.
This method yields rice with a delightful texture. You get fluffy grains complemented by a slightly crispy crust at the bottom, known as ‘nurungji’.
The process not only enhances the rice’s flavour but also imparts a comforting warmth.

Sagye Korean Pot Rice and BBQ in Tanjong Pagar is a popular spot for Sotbap.
Be prepared for long waits, as Sagye operates on a walk-in basis, and some diners opt for the BBQ, which can add to the wait.
Sagye’s Sotbap options include Beef Short Rib, Scallop, Spicy Chicken with Cheese, and Kurobuta Pork, with a choice of Japanese or five-grain rice. They also occasionally introduce seasonal specials.
The dishes arrive with banchan and soup, and you can enhance your bowl with a raw egg yolk, adding creamy richness.
The Spicy Chicken Sotbap is particularly comforting, with mild heat balanced by melted cheese.
At the meal’s end, tea poured over the crispy rice layer loosens the nurungji, creating a toasty, soothing finish.

While the restaurant has chosen to omit the nurungji (scorched rice crust) layer often found in Korean Sotbap, SOTPOT adds a modern twist by presenting Sotbap with options like Chicken Cheese with melted mozzarella.
Served as a set with side dishes, steamed egg, and soup, SOTPOT’s Sotbap offers diners an authentic experience that balances comfort and flavour.

The restaurant specialises in kalguksu, or knife-cut noodles, and has gained attention for its authentic flavours and dedication to quality. They have also introduced the Sotbap at this outlet.
Options include the hearty Short Rib Sotbap, featuring roasted beef chuck roll and egg yolk ($33.50), and the Cheese Spicy Pork Sotbap, with stir-fried pork shank and melted mozzarella ($26.50).
For seafood lovers, there’s the Pollack Roe Sotbap, which pairs roasted pollack roe with meshed potato ($28.50), and the Abalone Sotbap, topped with steamed abalone and taco ($28.50).
