SEORAE JIB has been newly rebranded from Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ, for a fresh yet traditionally-inspired Korean BBQ experience.
“Jib” translates to “house” in Korean, and SEORAE JIB aims to embody this concept by letting customers “Eat like Royals, Feel at Home”.
You can find SEORAE JIB conveniently at Plaza Singapura, NEX, JEM, and Northpoint City,
What’s the difference?
You will find Korean hanjeongsik (full-course meals with mains like Sotbap, Hotplate, Noodles) for lunch until 3pm, and BBQ service serving hay-smoked meats in Korean Onggi pots.
The star of SEORAE JIB’s menu is undoubtedly the hay and oakwood-smoked meats. Plus, you can also see the smoking in the show kitchen, adding a touch of theatre.
SEORAE JIB is the first in Singapore to use the traditional Korean Onggi pots for smoking – a method that provides distinct taste and aroma.
Onggi which is ancient Korean earthenware, is ideal for heat circulation, ensuring that every bite of meat is evenly smoked and suffused with the complex layers of both hay and oakwood.
Hay adds a subtle, earthy note, while oakwood imparts a deeper, rich smokiness.
For those dining in groups, SEORAE JIB offers curated set menus from $68, including the Mixed Pork & Beef Signature Set ($108).
This is designed for diners looking to sample a variety of options. The set includes premium cuts, each selected for flavour and tenderness. Here’s more:
Mixed Pork & Beef Signature Set ($108)
The set includes Smoked Black Pork Samgyeobsal, Galmaegisal (marinated pork skirt), Woosamgyeob (US Prime beef shortplate), Jinkkotsal (US Prime beef boneless short ribs), Cheesy Gyeran Jjim, and a choice of Jjigae or Cold Noodles.
Smoked Black Pork Samgyeobsal
This chestnut-fed black pork belly from Spain is as luxurious as it sounds.
After grilling, it hit that balance of tender meat with a slight crispiness at the edges, with a smoky aroma that matched the pork’s rich, almost buttery quality.
Galmaegisal
Unlike typical cuts, galmaegisal or marinated pork skirt meat is lean, flavourful, and tender with a springy texture that cannot be found in the usual options.
The marinade didn’t overpower the natural taste but rather enhanced a delicate sweetness and depth.
Woosamgyeob
The thinly sliced US Prime beef shortplate is known for its marbling, which practically melts in the mouth when grilled.
Its thinness allowed it to sear quickly, locking in just the right caramelisation and letting the subtle smoky flavour shine through.
Best paired with a light dipping sauce that doesn’t detract from its buttery, smoky essence.
Jinkkotsal
The US Prime Beef boneless short ribs are a bit heartier. Served in cubed shapes, this is my favourite cut, offering a robust beefy taste with every bite.
Cheesy Gyeran Jjim
Alongside the meats, SEORAE JIB’s set also included some comforting sides, such as the Cheesy Gyeran Jjim, a Korean steamed egg with cheese.
Its fluffy texture and mild savouriness balanced well with the BBQ’s rich flavours, and the melted cheese added a gentle creaminess that made it feel like a little indulgence between bites of the bold meats.
Yukgaejang Jjigae (Option for Set: choice of Jjigae or Cold Noodle)
For the choice of stews, I chose the Yukgaejang Jjigae, a spicy beef brisket soup. Good to see that the bowl was packed with a generous amount of meat.
It arrived steaming hot, with a deeply savoury broth and a hint of spice that warmed without overpowering. However, I did find it saltier than the usual Jjigae.
Mul Naengmyeon (Option for Set: choice of Jjigae or Cold Noodle)
This comforting soup was a fitting conclusion, though the Mul Naengmyeon – a cold, refreshing noodle dish would be a suitable choice as well, especially after a smoky, rich BBQ session.
The chilled buckwheat noodle dish is topped with sliced cucumber, radish, and a boiled egg, served in an icy, slightly tangy broth.
It delivers a cool, invigorating taste that’s palate-cleansing, perfect for winding down the meal.
The Korean BBQ experience is elevated with a vibrant array of nine meticulously prepared banchan, each thoughtfully displayed on individual plates.
This visually striking spread enhances the overall dining experience, celebrating the distinct flavours and textures of each side dish.
The variety of banchan also allows you to explore different ways of pairing with the BBQ meats.
This ranges from wrapping them with tteokbokki ‘skin’ and balancing savoury bites with white kimchi and seasoned squid, to enjoying a sweet contrast with pineapple slices.
SEORAE JIB’s à la carte menu offers a range of items that bring out the best of Korean flavours, with each dish carefully prepared to add variety and depth to the BBQ experience.
Smoked Black Angus Striploin ($34.90)
Lightly smoked with hay, it is grilled to create a delicious crust that seals in its juices, while the subtle smokiness enhances rather than masks the meat’s natural taste.
A touch of salt or dipping sauce completes the experience, allowing the beef’s quality to shine through.
Yangnyeom LA Galbi ($29.90)
The marinated US Prime bone-in short ribs, is bold and deeply flavourful.
SEORAE JIB’s special soy-based marinade adds a sweet-savoury glaze that caramelises on the grill, making each bite tender and intensely satisfying.
Haemul Pajeon ($24.90, $17.80 for members)
The Haemul Pajeon, or Korean seafood pancake, offers a satisfying mix of textures with its crispy edges and soft, seafood-filled centre.
Chives, spring onions, prawns, and squid add substance, and a dip in the tangy sauce enhances its savoury flavour.
Soju Bomb Set ($28.90)
For a touch of Korean dining culture, the Soju Bomb Set includes Chamisul soju and beer, allowing diners to try the classic “soju bomb” – which the staff can demonstrate.
Dropping a shot of soju into a beer glass and toasting with friends adds a lively, social element to the meal, rounding off the BBQ experience with an authentic and fun twist.
If preferred, the staff can handle the grilling, allowing diners to relax and fully immerse themselves in the flavours and atmosphere.
Service is attentive, with servers providing guidance on the recommended pairings of sauces and sides for each type of meat.
They also share insights into the smoking process and the significance of the Onggi pots, adding an educational layer that enhances the dining experience.
