[Seoul] Standard Bread 스탠다드 브레드 has garnered attention on social media for its décor and variety of freshly baked goods.
If you love breads, breads, breads, there are two locations you can head to – Seongsu 성수 and Dosan 도산.
To reach Standard Bread스탠다드 브레드 in Seongsu 성수 by subway, take Line 2 (the Green Line) to Seongsu Station. Exit the station through Exit 3. From there, it’s approximately a 10-minute walk to the bakery.
The exterior of Standard Bread feels like a barnyard, perhaps influenced by its previous occupant, Cheese Industry 치즈공업사.
It feels rather rustic with the wooden panels and stone flooring.
The interior features an open kitchen. The warm lighting creates a cosy atmosphere, and the blend of communal and private seating makes it inviting for groups or solo visitors.
There are two ways you can pick your selection: from the bread display or from the ala carte items on the menu.
The bakery’s commitment to freshness shines through, with new loaves baked every 30 minutes.
This means you are almost guaranteed to enjoy your bread warm, soft, and at its very best.
If you are selecting from the menu, the signature food options include Toast Pudding (6800 Won), Crème Brûlée French Toast (10,000 Won), Chestnut Soup (8000 Won), and Truffle Mushroom Soup (8000 Won).
I’ve read many good reviews about the Crème Brûlée French Toast, and it is indeed one of the best I’ve had in recent times.
Served on an iron cast pan, the creamy brûlée sauce will be poured upon serving, creating a hot, sizzling sensation.
The toast is thick and airy, perfectly soaking up the creamy brûlée sauce without turning soggy.
I really enjoyed the contrast between the crisp caramelised layer and the soft, custardy texture of the bread beneath.
Another highlight of the menu is the Tissue Bread, which lives up to its name with its delicate layers that peel apart effortlessly.
There are two versions to choose from: the standard and a truffle-infused variant.
To accompany the bread, they offer a variety of spreads and jams.
They include unique and flavourful options such as Pistachio Berry, Avocado Dill Cream Cheese, Cherry Streusel Butter, and Truffle Cream Cheese.
For a fruity touch, options like Blackberry Compote and Strawberry Cream abound, while savoury choices include Honey Mustard and Truffle-infused spreads.
The truffle cream cheese stood out for me as it paired wonderfully with the Tissue Bread.
Tip: You can also dip it into the Truffle Mushroom Soup. If you are someone who enjoys customising your meal, this combination is worth a try.
I found the overall experience enjoyable, even with a few minor drawbacks.
The popularity of the bakery often means long waiting times, especially on weekends. The wait can test your patience, but if you time your visit well, it is pretty manageable.
