Some people asked me about the “Michelin Selected” category found in the Michelin Guide Singapore 2024.
Ah… previously and often known as the Michelin Plate, it is a designation within the Michelin Guide that acknowledges restaurants for serving very good food.
The Selected Restaurants category means the establishments have met the criteria set by the inspectors but at this moment, they do not qualify for a Bib Gourmand or a Michelin Star.
Okay, back to the main point.
I noticed a NEW inclusion into the Michelin Selected which is Ye Tang Chendol at Beauty World Food Centre.
The other awarded Chendol stall is Nyonya Chendol.
This stall is notable for its Penang-style Chendol.
Opened just before the challenging “Circuit Breaker” period, the stall hidden at the corner of the food centre has received quite positive online reviews so far.
The classic bowl with attap chee is priced at $2.00, while you can opt for other options such as Red Bean Chendol ($2.50), Corn Chendol ($2.50) and popular D24 Durian Chendol ($3.80).
The base of Ye Tang’s chendol consists of finely shaved ice, drenched in a rich and aromatic gula melaka (palm sugar syrup) and silky coconut milk, creating a sweet and creamy texture.
What distinguishes Ye Tang Chendol is the use of kidney beans instead of the more common red beans.
These kidney beans offer a meatier texture and are less mushy, providing a nice contrast to the soft pandan jellies and the smoothness of the ice.
The stall provides options to add ingredients like durian pulp, which is rich and creamy, attap seeds for a chewy texture, and even grass jelly for an additional herbal note.
Located in a corner of the food centre and despite its simplicity, the stall has earned acclaim for delivering consistently quality chendol.
