The popular Da Cheng Lok Lok 大成渌渌 from Malaysia has opened an outlet in Singapore at Tai Seng.
This serves as a supper venue for those craving the Malaysian street food experience without having to cross the causeway.
Except well… the prices are in Singapore dollars.
This outlet, located at 61 Tai Seng Avenue, operates until 2am, making it a popular spot for late-night diners.
Because my friends jio me for supper, I last had it at Johor Bahru near KSL Mall.
The ordering process at Da Cheng Lok Lok is straightforward and part of the fun.
You pick your favourite seafood, meats, vegetables, and more, all available for deep-frying.
Each skewer is about RM1-2, while in Singapore it is SGD1-3 depending on the item.
While I think the taste of the Lok Lok is generally okay (some could be too oily), it is the range of sauces that is also part of the draw.
There are the Thai-style, mala, tangy-spicy and super-spicy, catering to various taste preferences from mild to spicy.
This dip-and-eat format not only enhances the flavours but also adds a fun element to the dining experience.
Oh yes, do not forget about the Wanton Mee also available at Da Cheng Lok Lok. The noodles had good chewiness, with tender wantons.
Over at JB, the casual, open-air setting of the venue, while simple, complements the street food dining style.
To me, it is the communal eating experience over the food.
Be prepared for a potentially crowded space and longer wait during peak hours, as the restaurant is quite popular among Singaporeans. Perhaps head over after 9pm or something.
