Caro Pâtisserie recently opened a new outlet at Joo Chiat, and I decided to visit after hearing about its reputation for pretty French tarts.
The original outlet is located at 78 Yio Chu Kang Road (kind of near NEX).
Tucked beside Café Wabi Sabi, this new spot caught my eye with its European-chic interior – a blend of crisp white walls, pastel accents, and subtle gold embellishments.
It is a small but quiet, charming space, with limited indoor seating and some outdoor tables for a leisurely afternoon.
The display is showcase of classic French pâtisserie. I noticed that they sell mainly tarts, without a super wide range like other styles of cakes.
Among the highlights are their berry tarts, which combine a crisp, buttery pastry base with a smooth layer of vanilla cream, topped generously with fresh, plump berries.
For those looking for a more rustic experience, there are the French Apricot Tart and Bourdaloue — a traditional French pear tart boasts a blend of flavours in its almond-based filling.
I started with their recommended Lemon Meringue Tartlet ($8.80). The tart base was crisp and cookie-like, crumbling just enough without falling apart.
There was a refreshing burst of citrus, yet it was not overly sour.
The zesty lemon custard, made from freshly squeezed lemons, pairs well with the soft sweetness of the Italian meringue that crowns the tart.
The Pistachio & Chocolate Tartlet ($9.80) was my personal favourite, featuring a layering of creamy white chocolate and pistachio ganache alongside a smooth dark chocolate ganache.
The dark chocolate filling was indulgently smooth, balanced by the nutty pistachio paste.
For a tropical twist, the Mango Tartlet ($9.80) is a bestseller.
The buttery pastry shell holds a light vanilla pastry cream, which serves as a base for the ripe, juicy mango slices neatly layered on top.
The Joo Chiat outlet has a cosy charm, but it’s clear the focus remains on the tarts themselves.
While the seating is limited, the space feels intimate, and the light-filled ambiance makes it an inviting spot to savour their creations.
