[Ipoh] White Coffee is a must-have in Ipoh because it represents a distinct local brewing method that blends coffee beans with margarine, resulting in a smooth, creamy flavour.

Of course I had to make my way to Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong 新源隆白咖啡 in Ipoh Old Town.

Oh yah, the other famous Kedai Makanan Nam Heong is just across the road.

The White Coffee here is undeniably the main attraction, and arrives slightly frothy and aromatic.

It is smooth with robust flavour and hints of caramel, with a slightly nutty aftertaste.

I liked the Iced White Coffee too – the smooth texture and bold caffeine kick set it apart.

Many customers prefer it to the nearby kopitiams, crediting Sin Yoon Loong with an authentic taste that harks back to its origins.

The soft-boiled eggs can be seasoned with soy sauce and pepper, providing a classic local experience. Though some might find it less impressive when compared to other Ipoh delights.

There are also dishes you can order from other stalls, such as Wanton Noodles, Curry Noodles, Yong Tau Foo and Chee Cheong Fun. (The Wanton Mee stall unfortunately closed early.)

The Mushroom Sauce Chee Cheong Fun (RM5) was decent and smooth, though could benefit from hotter sauce (think maybe because I was one of the last few customers).

The coffee shop is frequently crowded. This is simply part of the charm of dining at such an iconic spot, where the ambience is chaotic but quintessentially Malaysian.

Overall, Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong provides a nostalgic trip to Ipoh’s past.
