Craving for crabs?
Now, what if I told that you can get Alaskan King Crabs at 50% OFF?
Seafood Paradise from Paradise Group is the place to indulge in your seafood desires.
Located at VivoCity and CQ @ Clarke Quay, it offers both indoor seating and a pleasant alfresco dining experience with views of the bay or river.
The restaurant’s speciality is its live seafood, particularly its crab preparations that promise both nostalgia and bold flavours.
The live Alaskan King Crab is a prized delicacy for good reason.
Its meat is sweet, succulent, and tender, with a slightly briny flavour that captures the essence of the sea.
Harvested from the cold, deep waters, it is highly sought after due to the challenging conditions required to catch it.
Taste-wise, it is firm yet tender, with large, flaky pieces of meat that melt in your mouth. Its natural sweetness pairs perfectly with robust sauces.
Alaskan King Crab (50% OFF special, from 4 Oct – 15 Nov 2024, U.P $26.00 per 100g)
During my recent visit, I couldn’t resist ordering the Alaskan King Crab, since it is 50% OFF (for Citi Credit or Debit Cardmembers and PGR members).
For variety, I opted for a half-and-half preparation, which allowed me to try two signature styles – Signature Creamy Butter Crab topped with Coconut Crumbs and the classic Stir-fried Black Pepper Crab.
The Creamy Butter Crab made fresh daily, is a mix of aromatics like curry leaves, lemongrass, white pepper, and a hint of chilli padi.
Imagine that sweet-savoury flesh of the Alaskan King Crab soaking up that rich, velvety sauce.
The buttery sauce was creamy but not overwhelmingly so, with the coconut crumbs adding a delicate texture and subtle sweetness that complemented the crab’s natural taste.
Luxurious and comforting.
Stir-fried with Black Pepper
The Black Pepper Crab had a more intense flavour profile. The sauce was peppery without being too overpowering, allowing the crab’s flavour to remain at the forefront.
Each bite was a burst of spicy and slightly smoky goodness, with the firm, juicy crab meat absorbing the sauce effortlessly.
Both styles are worth trying, though I preferred the butter crab for its creamy texture and aromatic depth.
Buns ($1 per pc, min 2 pc)
To make the most of these rich sauces, I highly recommend adding some deep-fried or steamed buns to your order. Especially the golden, deep-fried buns which provide a contrast to the soft, fluffy interior.
The buns are great for soaking up every last bit of the sauces, especially the buttery richness from the crab.
If you are hungry for more, here are other recommended dishes from Seafood Paradise:
Boston Lobster tossed with Salted Egg Yolk ($15 per 100g)
Known for its tender texture and tinge of sweetness, this Boston Lobster is quick-fried till golden then tossed in mashed salted duck egg yolks.
Compared to the usual versions, which are typically creamier, this salty-sweet salted egg sauce had a grainier texture, coating the thick and crispy fried lobster.
Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with Preserved Turnip ($10.80 per 100g)
The hybrid Dragon Tiger Grouper has a firm yet tender flesh that flakes wonderfully and its texture quite bouncy, but still melts-in-your-mouth.
Skillfully prepared, the steamed fish would be further drizzled with hot oil infused with the fragrance of fried shallots, with a base of superior soy sauce.
Poached Live Tiger Prawn with Chinese Herb in Superior Stock ($39 for 300g, additional $5 for Drunken Prawn preparation style)
These are Drunken Tiger Prawns that look simple in a stock that can taste just heavenly.
Especially when you savour the sweetness of the succulent fresh prawns that soak up part of the herbal stock.
The alcohol content was not too strong on this one, but you still get that pleasant wine aroma and reinvigorating taste.
Crispy Kang Kong topped with Cuttlefish in Homemade Seafood Sauce ($22 for regular)
This kang kong dish is where each leaf is coated in a light batter before deep-frying to a crisp – almost tempura style.
Flanking the crunchy leaves are pieces of cuttlefish, cut into flower-like shapes, topped with a special homemade seafood sauce.
