[London] While on my way to find something else to eat in Soho, I was distracted by “#1 Google”.
Surely this must be good?
The Chicken Shop offers a twist on the traditional fast-food chicken joint, emphasising quality and sustainability in its offerings.
Located at 187 Wardour Street, it has other outlets at Baker Street, Camden, Islington, Notting Hill, and Putney.
Although the décor has fast-food eatery vibes, it features more rustic charm with wooden furniture and industrial elements
The service was very friendly, which explains the high Google rating.
At the heart of their menu are the buttermilk-brined chicken pieces, known for crunchy exterior and juicy interior.
This is thanks to a secret coating and frying in British rapeseed oil, which is free from trans fats.
The menu is diverse, featuring a range of chicken burgers, wraps, wings, and tenders.
It features wraps such as the Straight Up Wrap (£3.75 for small, £6.50 for large) and the Spiced Up Your Life Wrap (£4.15 for small, £7.25 for large) which includes samurai sauce, spicy slaw, and New York pickles.
For those preferring burgers, options include the Straight Up Burger (£7.95 for classic, £12.45 for double).
The Volcano Burger (£9.95 for classic, £13.75 for double) comes loaded with volcano sauce, volcano chicken bites, lettuce, and hoisin BBQ sauce.
The Straight Up Burger (£7.95) features a juicy chicken fillet, crisply dressed with lettuce and pickles.
This is further slathered in a buttermilk and herb mayo that adds just the right touch of tanginess. Good stuff I must say.
The sides section features House Fries (£3.55) and Loaded Fries (£5.25), along with an option to add handcrafted dips like Buttermilk & Herb or Samurai Sauce for an additional £1.00.
Additional offerings encompass a variety of wings and tenders, such as Naked Wings (£3.65 for 2 pcs, £12.95 for 12 pcs) and Jazzy Miller’s Tenders (£4.50 for naked, £13.95 for honey soy).
I was tempted enough to add on Tenders (£13.95 for 6 pcs) combining the crunch of well-prepared chicken with sweet and spicy Korean glaze.
It was flavourful but fell short of the burgers’ impressiveness due to its lack of juiciness.
If you are on the hunt for Chicken Burgers in London, the Chicken Shop should definitely be on your list.
