Chef Kang’s Private Kitchen, a Michelin-starred restaurant located on Mackenzie Road, will be closing its doors on 10 October.
It marks the end of a decade of serving exquisite Cantonese dishes.
Chef Ang Song Kang, affectionately known as Chef Kang, has announced his retirement, citing a lack of successors.
Despite the upcoming closure, Chef Kang continues to offer dinner service, albeit at a reduced capacity.
This Michelin-starred restaurants known for its intimate setting and Cantonese cuisine, offers a dining experience with only a few tables.
Therefore, it requires reservations made weeks in advance.
The restaurant’s ambiance is understated, with a traditional Chinese restaurant décor.
Chef Kang himself is often seen in the kitchen, cooking and overseeing each dish.
The menu features classic Cantonese dishes, each prepared with meticulous attention to detail.
One of my favourites is the Soon Hock Fish Soup, with rich, creamy broth that embodies a deep, homely flavour.
Another notable mention is the Prawn Paste Pork Belly, which combines a crispy texture with a robust flavour, making it a favourite among regulars.
Other highlights include the Cordyceps Flower Stewed Duck Soup, the Signature Shrimp Paste Deep-Fried Pork Belly, and the Chicken with Fragrant Spring Onion.
Haven’t been there in a while, and have not had a chance to revisit in recent years due to difficulty in reservation.
I had a few really good meals there, and here’s wishing Chef Kang happy retirement and the best of health.
