[Jakarta] When I heard the name “CHAVATY” the first time, I thought it was a cooler name for “Java Tea” (sounds alike, doesn’t it?)

Turns out, it is a name of Japanese tea café hailing from Omotesando Tokyo, specialising in tea latte, soft serve ice cream, and pastries.

Japanese chain cafes are the latest trend in the city, with the openings of Dore by Letao, Pablo, Chateraise, to the anticipated %Arabica.

Located on the 5th level of prestigious Plaza Indonesia, the cafe itself occupies a small corner inside the Lumine Department Store with minimalist decor.

Signature products includes tea latte; soft serve which comes with three different flavors (except scones) – Matcha, Houjicha (Roasted Green Tea) & Royal English tea; Scones, Snow Shakes, and Tea Jelly.

The Hot Honey Tea Latte (IDR 46k, SGD4.60) was recommended by the server, and you get choices such Roasted Green Tea Houjicha, Matcha and Ceylon Tea.

Opting for the Royal English Tea, the tea was aromatic with a hint of bitterness (which I personally like) and complemented well with the “unsinkable” honey that still lingered on top of the foam.

I think this is the first time I purely enjoyed a hot drink this much (as I typically preferred iced beverages). However, I wished that they did not serve in a take-away plastic cup.

The Iced Tea Latte (IDR 46k, SGD4.60) is another signature drink, and I opted for the Roasted Green Tea Houjicha.

After one sip, I loved the lingering roasted green tea savour and aroma, with just the right amount of bitterness.

Although CHAVATY is famous for their tea latte drinks, their Tea Latte Soft Cream (IDR 46k, SGD 4.60) has taken the spotlight for the instagrammable factor.

Many customers were holding (struggling before it melted) and photographing this iconic “poop” soft serve.

The matcha flavored Soft Cream got me hooked. There was a strong and bold matcha flavour, with just a tad of sweetness (which I find many green tea desserts around can be too sweet).

Not to mention the creamy and fluffy-smooth texture

The Tiramisu (IDR 50k, SGD5.00) was probably the least sweet and softest tiramisu I ever tasted in Jakarta.

Loved that the coffee component was not over-powering; and portion wise, it was perfect for personal consumption.

The Scone (IDR 20k, SGD 2.00 each) was pretty-average, as I was expecting it to have a slow baked cookie texture.

However, it was slightly too brittle, and I wished that there could be a saltier tinge on the butter.

CHAVATY uses high quality and natural ingredients, thus the more “atas” prices.

I personally thought the price was worth it, for the delightful Japanese quality of the desserts and latte.
