[Athen, Greece] I have been to several over-the-top ‘OTT’ cafes around, but Little Kook located at the Psiri neighbourhood of Athens probably takes the cake.

Located a short walk away from Monastiraki metro station, Little Kook is a fairytale themed café and has seasonal themes from Valentine’s, Halloween, to Christmas.

When I visited, it was an Alice in Wonderland (or they call it “Alice in Kookland”) theme, though there are changing ones such as Mary Poppins and Cinderella.

The first thing that comes to mind if people mention “café” would be a humble, small little coffeehouse; but Little Kook literally took the street and several shops down.

The entire place was decorated like a whimsical festival, full on in terms of the quirkiness. Can be overwhelming in terms of visual bombardment. Even the toilets were fun to enter.

You would find Alice (of course), the Cheshire Cat, King of Hearts, March Hare, the Mock Turtle, the Frog-Footman and several other familiar characters appearing in various forms for photo-taking.

Waitresses were dressed as Alice, while some of the male servers wore the Mad Hatter costumes.

Needless to say, several customers as well as passerbys stopped to take photos; I even witnessed one who stopped her car and caused a tiny traffic jam (so please don’t do that – safety first).

And oh, you don’t need a ticket or minimum order to take photos, but it would be nice to sit down for a drink and more.

Food-wise, you can expect several sweet treats including Crepes, Pancakes, Magic Frosties, Desserts, Cakes and Ice Cream.

I had a Hazelnut Praline Pancake (€8.50, SGD12.40). Honestly, while I wasn’t expecting much, the pancake layers were considered fluffy and generous with the amount of hazelnut sauce given.

In a place surrounded with ancient ruins, it was indeed interesting and eye-captivating to experience such as place which attempts to create magic.

Even if you do not intend to take photos, it would be great to feel the fairytale vibes.
