[Suwon] One of the most well-loved rom-com K-dramas of recent times has to be Lovely Runner.
Featuring a romantic time-travel storyline, the series stars Byeon Woo-seok as Ryu Sun-jae (catapulting him to stardom), and Kim Hye-yoon as Im Sol.
Being a fan of the show (and cafes), I made it a point to travel an hour plus from Seoul to Suwon to check out this film site. (Suwon is great – do check on its other famous sites.)
Tucked away in the quaint alleys of Suwon’s Haenggung-dong is this café that has gained significant attention for being one of the filming locations for Lovely Runner.
Mong Ted (몽테드) was used as Im Sol’s house in the series, with its rustic tiled roof and wooden details complementing the nostalgic atmosphere of the drama.
And, of course, fans will recognise the iconic yellow umbrella that adds a memorable touch to the setting.
Just across the alley, the blue-gated house serves as Sun-jae’s residence in the show. This is another or the popular photo spot.
While the café welcomes visitors, the actual house remains a private residence, so visitors are encouraged to keep noise levels low and respect the peaceful neighbourhood.
Mong Ted serves up a selection of baked goods, particularly known for Salt Bread.
Flavourful choices include Olive Cheese Salted Bread (4,500 Won), Pepper Salted Bread (4,500 Won), and Tomato Basil Salted Bread (4,800 Won).
Cheese enthusiasts might enjoy the Mozzarella Cheese Salted Bread (4,800 Won), while the Melon Salted Bread (4,800 Won) adds a touch of sweetness.
Of course, I couldn’t miss the Red Bean Butter Salt Bread (4,800 Won), with a bit of saltiness, sweetness from the red bean paste and creaminess from butter.
Some patrons may find the Salted Bread to be fairly standard (if compared to the Seoul ones), but I appreciated its wide spread, fresh and warm quality.
Signature drinks include the A.Mongd.L Almond Latte (6,300 Won) and the creamy White Sands (6,300 Won).
Other choices range from classic Americano (5,000 Won) and Vanilla Latte (6,000 Won) to non-coffee favourites like Oasis (5,800 Won) and Vanilla Bourbon (6,300 Won).
Seating within the café is somewhat limited, especially during weekends when it tends to be busier.
The interior space is divided into cosy sections, which, while charming, can become crowded.
Mong Ted’s association with the popular Lovely Runner adds a charming appeal, making it a must-visit spot for fans of the show.
